Belongs to the corundum family of minerals. Belongs to the quartz family of minerals.
It is an expensive precious gemstone belonging to the exclusive club of the big four: diamond, ruby, emerald and Sapphire. It is relatively less expensive semi-precious stone.
Superior stones display colors ranging from pale orange to vivid reddish orange. Citrines show colors ranging from vivid yellow to reddish orange.
Measures 9 on Moh’s scale of hardness. It is among the toughest of gemstones. Measures 7 on the Moh’s scale. It is fairly tough though not as much a Sapphire.
Their chemical composition and crystalline configuration tends to give them eye visible inclusions. Very often they are eye-clean meaning that inclusions are not visible to naked eye. Still, being a feldspar stone, it can have crystalline inclusions and display a shimmering sparkle.
Almost all the stones are heated to enhance color. In case of Citrine too, virtually all quality stones have been heat treated.
It is coveted for its rarity and its blazing orange color. Absence of inclusions, reasonability of price and its exuberance make the stone well loved.

So Orange Sapphire or Citrine: Conclusion:Both stones have their own merits. But Sapphire is the clear winner. So if you can afford to splurge on Sapphire, go for it. But, if money is an isuue go along with Citrine.
