Rose Gold

Rose Gold is the name given to a special metal alloy of 24 karat yellow gold, copper, and silver. It creates an enchanting rosy red tint in the resulting material. The metal is warm & flush in appearance as if gold is blushing like a bride. This alloy has been around for a while. 18th Century jewelers used it in formulating quatre-couleur gold. Decorative inlays crafted out of gold’s pinkish, greenish, and whitish repetitions constituted these formulations.

During the Early 19th century, in Imperial Russia, Carl Fabergé, jeweler to the Czars, put rose-gold (he called it Russian Gold) to stunning use in many of his extravagant decorative eggs. It includes the jeweled “Moscow Kremlin” egg, a gold & white enamel egg set into the fifteenth-century Spasskaya Tower replica, overlooking Red Square. Nicholas commissioned it as a gift for his wife, Empress Alexandra. The egg cost 11,800 rubles in 1906.

The United States of the early 1920s leaned towards feminine glamor. Consequently, this particular tint of gold gained popularity at the time. Jewelers crafted engagement rings and fine jewelry out of it. Furthermore, Cartier played a crucial role in this emerging trend. It created luscious rose gold fine jewelry studded with precious gems & diamonds.

In particular, rose-gold wedding rings became popular after Louis Cartier designed and wore the cult classic ‘Trinity ring.’ It comprised three bands of differently colored gold, forever joined in a tactile embrace. The rose gold reflected love, yellow displayed fidelity, and white gold symbolized friendship. The three colors of gold were intertwined to epitomize harmony. The ring sparked a trend of wearing rose gold.

Today, this blush hue of precious metal shows up in engagement rings, necklaces, watches, and more. Rose-colored gold jewelry pieces look elegant on their own and can also bridge the gap between yellow & white gold when worn together.

Flattering to most skin tones the shade has spread to fashion, accessories, and beauty. You can also opt for rose-colored gold if want something non-traditional with vintage appeal.

Rose gold is also known as pink gold, red gold or blush gold may sound more exotic than the usual yellow. However, the cause of this color is rather humdrum: copper. There is no such thing as naturally occurring rose gold. It is a man-made gold alloy obtained from a mix of gold and copper. The amount of copper used as an alloy is what imparts the pink tinge.
